Independent Technical Leadership for Complex Remediation Projects

Remediation projects demand clear technical leadership, proportionate decision-making, and reliable evidence. Whilst fire safety is often a primary driver, effective remediation must also address structural performance, installation quality, workmanship standards, and broader compliance obligations. We provide Building Safety Consultancy to support a balanced, risk-based approach that reflects the full scope of building performance requirements.

Remediation & Building Safety Consultancy

The impact of proper remediation management

Whether the issues relate to external wall fire performance, compartmentation, façade installation defects, or wider construction shortcomings, we bring clarity and coordination to the process – working alongside, designers, contractors and engineers to create a single, managed pathway focused on safety, compliance, durability, and practical delivery.

We support some of the UK’s largest residential developers on complex, large-scale remediation programmes, as well as Managing Agents and dutyholders overseeing individual buildings. Our role is to provide independent technical oversight, proportionate advice, and structured reporting that enables informed decision-making and controlled project progression.

How we can support – Building Safety Consultancy

We can act as the client’s independent technical advisor to:

  • Interpret FRAEWs, internal compartmentation surveys, and fire strategies
  • Develop coordinated remediation scopes and defect schedules
  • Review design proposals, materials, and contractor methodologies
  • Support Building Safety Regulator gateway submissions
  • Coordinate evidence for the building Safety File and EWS1
  • Provide liaison between clients, designers, contractors, and dutyholders

Buildtech does not act as contractor, designer, or Principal Designer.

Where specialist input is required—such as structural engineering or façade design—this can be provided by our in-house fire engineer or by the client’s appointed specialists.

Remediation Advisory Process

Before committing to expensive remediation works, it is essential to understand the full fire-safety picture.

Stage 1 Advisory Process provides a structured, PAS 9980-aligned review of FRAEW findings within the wider context of:

  • Internal compartmentation
  • External wall construction
  • Overall life-safety risk

Information review and validation, including:

  • Identifying gaps in available information
  • Verifying key construction details
  • Integrating internal and external fire risk findings

Outcome-focused approach that:

  • Establishes a clear, evidence-based foundation for decision-making
  • Supports proportionate and defensible remediation strategy development
  • Avoids premature solutions
  • Ensures life safety remains the priority

Independent Monitoring Surveyor

We can be appointed as Independent Monitoring Surveyor to provide objective assurance that remediation works are delivered:

  • In accordance with approved designs
  • Aligned with PAS9980, Approved Document B, and the Building Safety Act
  • Addressing fire-safety, structural, and installation-related risks

This service includes design review, inspections at key stages, and clear reporting to support dutyholders and regulatory engagement.

FAQs

What is Building Safety Consultancy?

IIndependent advice to help clients interpret assessments and manage remediation in line with Approved Document B, PAS 9980, and the Building Safety Act—focused on coordination, compliance, and proportionate risk management rather than construction delivery.

Do you only deal with fire-related defects?

No. While fire safety is often the primary driver, remediation projects frequently include issues relating to structural support, fixings, weatherproofing, and installation quality. Buildtech UK are façade specialists and can directly assess these aspects as part of our consultancy, coordinating with structural engineers where additional specialist input is required.

What services can Buildtech provide?

Acting as Interpreting FRAEWs, internal compartmentation surveys, and fire strategies; developing coordinated remediation scopes; advising on regulatory compliance and BSR gateways; reviewing design proposals and products; acting as Independent Monitoring Surveyor; and coordinating evidence for the Building Safety File and EWS1.

What information is needed to begin?

Typically:

  • FRAEW reports
  • Internal compartmentation surveys
  • Fire door surveys
  • Fire strategies and drawings
  • External façade investigations and reports
  • Product and specification details

Where any of these aren’t available, we can undertake these surveys and prepare the necessary documentation.

Do you carry out the remediation works?

No. We provide independent technical advice and verification while the appointed contractor remains responsible for delivery.

How do you support the Building Safety Regulator?

By structuring designs, evidence, and reporting to meet gateway expectations, reducing the risk of challenge or delay.

Can you act as Monitoring Surveyor?

Yes. We can provide design review, site inspections, and verification in line with approved details and statutory guidance.

Will this help with an EWS1 Form?

Yes. Our approach creates the evidence required to support EWS1 Form B, subject to completion of works and any necessary engineering endorsement.

When should a consultant be appointed?

Ideally following completion of FRAEW, internal compartmentation surveys, fire door surveys, or external façade and structural investigations, and during the design phase before Building Safety Regulator submission. Early appointment allows fire-safety, structural, and installation defects to be considered together, reducing the risk of redesign, delay, or conflicting remedial approaches.

Does this replace the design team or fire engineer?

No. We complement the project team. Specialist engineering can be provided by our in-house fire engineer or the client’s appointed engineer.

What are the main benefits?

Independent technical leadership; reduced regulatory and technical risk; better build quality and consistency; and a stronger position for EWS1 and future compliance.
